Problems That May Be Encountered During The Use Of Idlers

Inflexible rotation: The idler may exhibit inflexible rotation or even fail to rotate during operation. This leads to increased frictional resistance during operation, higher energy consumption, reduced transport distance or air supply volume, aggravated damage to the idler and conveyor belt, and a shortened service life.

Poor sealing performance: Poor sealing performance of the idler may result in the bearings being contaminated by water spray or dust. Although labyrinth seals attempt to reduce the ingress of contaminants, the sealing effect is poor when the clearance is large; while a smaller clearance can slow down the rate of contamination, it cannot completely prevent it and increases rotational resistance.

Lubricating grease issues: Improper selection or poor management of lubricating grease may lead to grease leakage from the bearings, corrosion caused by the ingress of external water or moisture, or mildew of the grease, thereby causing bearing failure.

Material and manufacturing quality: The material and manufacturing quality of components such as the idler tube, housing-type bearings, and rolling bearings directly affect the overall performance and service life of the idler. For example, the out-of-roundness of the tube and the non-parallelism of machining can affect the axial cylindricity and rotational frictional resistance of the idler.

Insufficient maintenance and care: A lack of regular maintenance and care is also one of the reasons for idler problems. For example, failure to timely replace damaged idlers or clean up accumulated coal dust or coal sludge can lead to degraded idler performance and a shortened service life.
