Affected by the differing statements regarding the dialogue between the United States and Iran, the price of international energy (850101) experienced significant fluctuations during trading on the 23rd.
In the early trading session that day, the international oil price continued to rise due to the ongoing tension in the Middle East. The price of London Brent crude oil futures once rose above $113 per barrel. Afterwards, U.S. President Trump stated that the United States and Iran had engaged in "very good and productive" dialogue over the past two days, and that the United States will "postpone by 5 days" the strike on the Iranian power station. As a result, London oil prices plummeted by more than 10%, falling below the $100 per barrel mark.
However, Iran immediately denied any contact with the United States, and market tensions once again escalated, causing London oil prices to rise back to around $105 per barrel, with the decline narrowing to about 6%. In the afternoon, oil prices weakened again, falling back to around $101 per barrel.
The European natural gas (885430) market also shows a similar trend. As the benchmark price for European natural gas (885430), the Dutch Title Transfer Facility (TTF) natural gas (885430) April futures price rose to over 63 euros per megawatt-hour in the early trading session that day, but quickly dropped to about 54 euros after Trump's statement, and then rebounded to around 56 euros after Iran's statement.
On that day, oil prices in New York also experienced significant fluctuations. The price of the May-delivery light crude oil futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange dropped from above $98 per barrel to $84.37 per barrel.
