According to information recently published on the "World Energy" (World-energy.org) website, despite the significant efforts made by the Philippines in energy transition, according to data from the International Energy Agency (IEA), the country is still expected to be one of the largest coal-consuming nations in Southeast Asia by 2030.
In 2025, the coal consumption in the Philippines is expected to reach 47 million tons.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that by 2030, coal demand in the Philippines will continue to grow by 15%, reaching 54 million tons.
The rapid increase in population and continued strong economic growth are expected to lead to a significant 27% increase in electricity demand during the forecast period, which will further drive coal demand growth and make the country one of the top coal-consuming nations in the region, alongside Indonesia and Vietnam in Southeast Asia.
