Powder coating is a process in which dry powder is applied evenly to the surface of metal or other substrates using either electrostatic spraying or fluidized-bed dipping, and then cured by heat to form a hard, continuous coating.
The powder-coating process typically consists of the following steps:
Surface preparation: The substrate must be cleaned and freed of oil, rust, and other contaminants to ensure excellent adhesion and coating quality.
Spraying: The powder coating is sprayed uniformly onto the substrate using a spray gun, creating an even layer of powder.
Curing: The coated part is placed in a curing oven, where the powder melts and flows out at high temperature, forming a dense, uniform coating. Curing temperature and time depend on the type of powder and the coating thickness.
Cooling: The coating cools in the oven, solidifying and attaining its final physical properties.
