Recently, the U.S. Department of Energy announced a reorganization, prioritizing fossil fuel and nuclear energy resources over the previous department focused on renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The Department of Energy released a new organizational chart with a brief statement stating that this adjustment aligns with President Trump's energy-focused agenda. According to reports, the new chart shows the addition of multiple departments, including the Hydrocarbon and Geothermal Energy Office and the Fusion Energy Office. The Clean Energy Demonstration Office established by the Biden administration has been abolished. The Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office has also disappeared from the new chart. The Loan Program Office responsible for financing innovative energy projects has been renamed the Energy Dominant Financing Office.
This restructuring is seen as a continuation of the Republican party's traditional energy policies, reversing the support for renewable energy during the Democratic era. Shale oil, nuclear power companies may receive more policy support. Photovoltaic Research funding for wind power and other clean energy sources may be reduced.
EU climate officials criticized this move as "contrary to global emissions reduction trends." Chinese energy experts point out potential impacts China-US New Energy Technology Cooperation.
