Drive Pulley and Bend Pulley Differences

There are significant differences in function, structure, installation position, and application scenarios between belt conveyor drive pulleys and bend pulleys.

Function different: The driving pulley (also known as transmission roller) is the core component of power transmission. It is driven by an electric motor and a reducer, relying on friction with the conveyor belt to move the conveyor belt and transport materials. The direction change pulley does not transmit power and is mainly used to change the direction of the conveyor belt or increase the contact angle with the transmission roller to ensure the belt forms a closed loop.

Different structure: The drive pulley has a complex structure, usually integrating motors, reducers, and other driving devices (such as electric rollers), or requiring external driving systems (like sprockets and gear transmissions). The bend pulley has a simple structure, mainly consisting of a roller body and a bearing seat, with surfaces mostly being flat rubber or smooth steel.

Installation position different: The driving pulley is usually installed at the discharge end (head) to increase traction. bend pulleys are commonly found at the end (forming a 180-degree angle Change direction), above the vertical tensioning device (90° Change direction) or under the conveyor belt (surface enhancement effect).

Different Application Scenarios: Drive pulleys are widely used in logistics, warehousing, packaging, etc., for transporting heavier materials such as ore, coal, cement, etc. Bend pulleys are typically used in airports and ports to complete route turns in small spaces, eliminating the need for mechanical devices to maneuver and reducing costs. When designing logistics conveyor lines, bend pulleys are typically used at path turns, junctions, or under manifolds to direct the conveyor belt to its destination as needed.

In summary, the driving pulley and the bend pulley each play their roles in the belt conveyor system, and should be selected according to specific needs.
