Polyformaldehyde is a thermoplastic crystalline polymer. Known as "super steel" or "race steel," also called polyoxymethylene. The English abbreviation is POM. The polymers obtained from formaldehyde polymerization usually have a low degree of polymerization and are prone to thermal degradation. It can be used as a raw material for organic chemicals and synthetic resins, and also as a fumigant for pharmaceuticals.
White flammable crystalline powder with a formaldehyde odor. It dissolves slowly in cold water and dissolves more quickly in hot water. 20 ℃ Solubility in water is 0.24g/100cm3 H2O. Insoluble in ethanol and ether. Soluble in sodium hydroxide and potassium solutions.
Advantages
1. High mechanical strength and rigidity; 2. The highest fatigue strength; 3. Good environmental resistance and resistance to organic solvents;
4. Strong resistance to repeated impacts; 5. Wide operating temperature range (-40 ℃ ~120 ℃ 6. Good electrical properties;
7. Good recovery properties; 8. Self-lubricating and good wear resistance; 9. Excellent dimensional stability.
Disadvantages
Susceptible to strong acid corrosion, poor weather resistance, poor adhesion, close thermal decomposition and softening temperatures, low oxygen index.
